Taking the next step
Moving in together seems to be an obvious step for many couples, whether you are just taking your relationship to the next level, or are newly married and living as a couple for the first time, there are a lot of issues to consider.
While you may be caught up in the moment, and the idea of lazy Sunday’s and all night foot massages, the reality for many can be very different. Here are a few things you should think about before cohabitation!
Chores
Are you going to have set chores or take it in turns? There is nothing worse than moving in with someone and realizing they are messy or expect you to carry the load.
It may not be the most romantic topic, but discussing your expectations when it comes to cleaning, cooking and the dishes will help you start on neutral ground.

Whose House is it anyway?
If you are going to be moving into his home, he may already have everything set up. This means that you will double up on items and you will have to decide what to keep. It is a good idea to keep your excess furniture in storage in case things don’t work out as planned. You can always sell them later if necessary.
Make sure you really feel comfortable living there, add your own personality added to the house. Otherwise you may end up feeling like a guest in your own home.
Know how to compromise
It is all about give and take, and to feel on an equal playing field. Sometimes you have to know when to let something slide, and other times it’s important to stand your ground. Choose which battles are worth fighting.
For example, you may be used to having 50 pink teddy bears lining your bedroom wall, while his dining room table was used to play table tennis. It is time to make your own memories, and compromise to make a happy medium.
Have your own space
Moving in together doesn’t mean that you have to spend every waking minute together. Have time out for yourself, and if possible have your own space in the house. Maybe you can have a room for sewing, a nice big walk in wardrobe, or your own desk; it will help to have your own space.
Saturday night with friends
Whether it be Saturday nights on the town, or his weekly football games, it is important to discuss your expectations. Is it ok for him to stay out all night with the boys without telling you or visa versa?
By having discussions early it means that both parties know where they stand, and conflict will be avoided.
Being open in your relationship will make it stronger, and it will make the transition of moving in together easier, and fun! Here is to a successful relationship!
