Trends, Tips and Hairstyles for 2010
In 2010 the hottest hairstyles will be those that look unkempt and unmanaged. It's the hairstyle you get after a night out and when you wake up - what was originally a long sleek hairstyle turns into messy bed hair.
Longer hairstyles can be curled / waved at the ends, but it should be a loose curl and not the tighter curls we saw in 2009. Think Blake Lively (Gossip Girl), Kim Kardashian and Courtney Cox Arquette (Cougar Town). It creates a softer, more feminine look and not only is it easy to achieve, it suits most face shapes. Try some longer layers around the face and go without the fringe.
Crimping is also back in 2010 but less is definitely more.
If you have medium hair, the must have will be the long layered bob. Just above shoulder length, it will be especially popular for blondes, and a fringe will complete the look. A sophisticated, stylish look which can be dressed up with a skinny headband.
If you have a short bob, think about adding some length for a change, or keep rocking it with a darker shade. Express your personality and go a little bit alternative.
Up styles are simple, a popular look will be sweeping the hair off your face into a relaxed bun or pony tail. It's the casual, girl next door look and it couldn't be better. Just make sure your make-up and clothing compliments your hairstyle so you still feel chic rather than drab.
We are going to give credit to Nicole Ritchie for starting the braiding trend because she does it so well. Braid two sections down each side of your hair, and tie back, low maintenance and ideal for a new mother. Once you feel confident, experiment and try braiding different sections until you get a look that suits you.
Headbands may be on the way out, but we aren't quite ready to give them up yet.
2010 is a good year for hair, any of the above looks are achievable at home with the right products, and with a messy hairstyle you don't need to worry about it getting ruined!
