Having honed his aesthetic through previous incarnation as a fine artist, Alexi Freeman’s self-titled ready-to-wear label offers an elegant take on a sporty silhouette, with signature detailing such as intricate panel work, hand cast zipper tags and hand printed textiles.
With a focus on exquisite workmanship, fine fabrics and a bold directional aesthetic, my label is here for women who love fashion with a very personal touch.
Alexi Freeman was selected as one of the 20 Hot New Collections for AW 07’ and I was also invited to show my AW 07’ range at DEBUT@Fashion Exposed. Alexi lives and works in Melbourne, where he designs, samples, prints and manufactures his collections.

Question and Answers
Q: The inspiration behind Alexi Freeman:
A: Women who are enamored by the past but lust after the future...
Q: How would you describe your current collection -
A: My AW07 Collection MONOCHROME is directional elegance targeting the sophisticated end of the post punk set. There’s black, white and shades of grey in between. It’s a sporty take on film noir, for an old fashioned girl whose just seen colour for the first time and still has stars in her eyes...
Q: Price range:
A: 99 - 999
Q: Who wears Alexi Freeman?
A: The Alexi Freeman woman works, plays and doesn’t have time to get changed in-between. She’s Anna Karenina gliding seamlessly on a Shinkansen (silk satin and georgette blouse with neck ties).
She’s a New Wave Audrey Hepburn (in knickerbockers and mesh) and she’s Kate Moss before (during) and after her pregnancy (100% silk Jersey flapper dress with 2-way stretch). You’re guaranteed to double take her on the street, but only if she wants to be noticed.
Q: Future -
A: You.
Q: 3 fave fashion tips –
1. When in doubt, DON’T! - Benjamin Franklin
2. All tits = no style - c’est moi
3. Fashion fades, only style remains the same - Coco Chanel
Q: Biggest fashion faux par
A: Embracing the latest trend although it does nothing for your body type or complexion. Oh and Jesus sandals!
Q: Words of wisdom to up and coming designers -
A: Stay true to your vision and don’t take no for an answer.
Q: Autumn / Winter 2007 forecast
A: Monochromatic pieces with sharp tailoring juxtaposing sporty silhouettes, iconic hand printed fabrics, and metallic highlights; sound familiar?
